Chantel started at School One through our Creative Center as an intern for Write Rhode Island. During that time, she assisted with publishing anthologies, hosting Open Mics at School One and teaching Write Rhode Island workshops across the state. In 2024, she began teaching Creative Writing at School One, where she encouraged students to write passionately, and share their stories with the world. Many of her students were published in youth writing contests, and left her classroom with a lifelong love of storytelling. Recently, Chantel took on a larger role as Admissions and DEI Coordinator, where she helps welcome new families to the school and works with existing students and families to further School One’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive space where all feel welcome. Though she is not teaching, she still encourages students to read and write, and even runs a little lending library from her office.
When she’s not at School One, Chantel enjoys reading, storytelling, live music, and exploring the world. Originally from Puerto Rico, Chantel loves to travel. She’s also a big fan of animals and has two dogs, two cats and a bearded dragon!
