School One recognizes the potential of each and every student who comes through our door. We provide an individualized education, model respect and kindness, and, most importantly, inspire students to become better versions of themselves as they mature and grow.

Your support is critical to School One and the lives of our students. We enroll students who yearn to engage their artistic and intellectual passions, who seek the independence to direct their own learning, and who want a caring environment where they feel safe and respected.

By building a school community with these qualities as our hallmarks, we have been transforming the lives of students since 1973. Our community – students, parents, grandparents, alumni and other friends – ensure that School One remains a vital place. Giving and volunteering are concrete ways that you can make a difference and make School One stronger.

There are many ways to support School One and we count on financial assistance from our community to meet the needs of students. Individuals help provide financial aid to 60% of our students, who otherwise would not be able to attend, and also help provide critical educational resources not funded by tuition.

The School One Fund

The School One Fund provides unrestricted annual financial support with the flexibility to respond to the greatest needs and our greatest opportunities.

The School One Fund advances our commitment to make a School One education possible for students of all backgrounds by providing direct financial support. Your gifts have an immediate impact and provide critical financial support for deserving students every year.

Every member of the greater School One community – alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, administrators, local businesses, community members, and foundations – is invited to help maintain our commitment to personalized secondary education. Every gift is important, and makes a difference!

Laurie Spry Memorial Teacher Development Fund

Laurie came to School One in 1993, where she taught in the Math and Science Department, and was a strong advisor and treasured colleague. After retirement, Laurie returned to School One to assist in curriculum development and continued to host our annual Farm Day where she graciously invited students to her property to swim, play, and get to know her farm animals.

Funds donated in honor of Laurie will be used to help School One teachers strengthen their craft.

The Literacy Center

The School One LitCenter is a dynamic community writing center serving adult writers and young authors, from beginners to professionals. Our LitCenter brings writing groups, classes, workshops, and special events to School One in the afternoons and evenings all year long. Join School One, and our partners GrubStreet, Goat Hill, Frequency Writers, and the HiFI Collaborative, at Rhode Island’s growing hub for writers.
