Dungeons & Dragons for Middle Schoolers

Dungeons and Dragons is a cooperative storytelling game that encourages problem-solving, teamwork, and creative thinking. Students will join together with a group and battle monsters, navigate challenges and puzzles, and work together to save the world! This D&D group is for players of all experience levels.

This group is a student-led campaigns with two School One students hosting and DMing. Grades 6-8. Free. Registration is required.

Graphic Novel Book Club for Teens: Borders by Thomas King

Graphic Novel Book Club for Teens: Borders by Thomas King
Middle and high school students are invited to join our engaging Graphic Novel Discussion Groups. Co-hosted by Write Rhode Island and community partners, these monthly sessions offer students an opportunity to analyze the writing and storytelling techniques, and explore the art and craft of graphic novels in a fun, interactive setting.

Discuss "Borders" by Thomas King with Tomaquag Museum and Write Rhode Island. The first 10 students to register get a free copy of the book.

Magical Realism

Teens are invited to explore the realm of the magical realism genre with this four- week course. Magical realism is a subgenre of fiction that uses genre/magical elements in what would typically be considered a realistic story. Students will get the opportunity to read published magical realism stories, learn the mechanics of the genre, and write their own short story! For students in grades 7-12.

Playwriting for Teens

Write Rhode Island is hosting a playwriting workshop series for students interested in submitting to Trinity Rep’s Write Here Write Now Playwriting for Teens. Come learn the ins and outs of writing a script for the stage! Students will create an original ten minute play of their own to be entered into the student play festival. If selected the play will be read by professional actors on the Trinity Rep stage! Open to students in grades 9-12.

Fairy Tales & Legends: Writing Your Own Myths
Chantel

Dive into the enchanting world of fairy tales and myths, exploring their timeless themes and modern reinventions. Over four immersive sessions, students will analyze classic tales, uncover hidden meanings, and craft their own fairy tale-inspired stories. Through guided exercises and peer workshops, this course will help writers breathe new life into familiar stories or invent entirely new myths. And, of course, we will write our own fairy tales inspired by the reading. For students in grades 7-12.

Fundamentals of Fiction (virtual)

In this virtual four-week course students will learn the fundamentals of fiction, including character, plot, setting, and theme. Class activities will include readings, discussions, in-class writing exercises, and workshopping. This course is designed for students with little experience through intermediate students.
