School One was one of only 15 organizations in Rhode Island to receive a major grant from The RI Humanities Council. Write Rhode Island is School One’s flagship creative writing program and fiction competition for teens. Write Rhode Island will use the $9,200 grant to develop creative writing curriculum to share with teachers, provide free creative writing workshops for students across the state and host an intensive summer writing program.
Write Rhode Island was co-created by School One and Goat Hill writers in 2017 as a way to encourage Rhode Island students to strengthen their writing and develop an interest in their state. Each year Write Rhode Island receives more than 150 story submissions from 33 of Rhode Island’s cities and towns representing students attending public, private and parochial schools from across the Ocean State.
