Drawing Our Stories Intergenerational Classes for Adults 55 and Older: Writing and Drawing

Enjoy and explore your creativity through writing and drawing by joining this School One class. Led by visual artist Monica Shinn and creative writer Eve Kerrigan, this nine-week class will introduce students to writing techniques, art elements and prompts designed to cross disciplines. This class will culminate in an exhibition and celebration of students' work.

Congratulations Class of 2018!

The 2018 graduates will take the stage on Friday, June 8, 2018 to receive their diplomas from School One.  The graduation ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Providence Career and Technical Academy Auditorium located at 41 Fricker Street in Providence.

We're in East Side Monthly

School One is RI Arts Powerhouse

For the third consecutive year, a School One student has won a national gold medal at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.  Vesper Guo from Providence, Rhode Island won for her ink drawing entitled “Reflection.”  Miss Guo currently has two sculptures on display at Providence’s Sprout Gallery and one of her photographs was recently chosen for a show at Pennsylvania’s Drexel University. 

 

Take a class with Frequency Writers!

Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in February, School One will host Frequency Writers' creative writing classes. Frequency Writers is a community writing organization in Providence and this year they'll be offering creative writing classes and workshops at School One.

Head of School One selected for prestigious Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program

Head of School One Jennifer Borman is one of 16 educators selected from around the country to participate in this year’s Fulbright-Hays Seminar in China.  Throughout July, she will visit the cities of Beijing, Xi’an, Chongqing and Shanghai.  She will tour schools, teacher training programs, and arts academies as well as visit museums, temples and archeological sites.  

School One student art featured in I-195 Creative Mile installation

Eighteen students contributed to an art installation, called Regeneration, that was mounted last month in downtown Providence, in the new park created by the removal of Interstate 195. Arts Coordinator Kristen Jones’s proposal was one of 12 selected for the site. The installation will be on display for the next year.

School One goes to China!

Admissions Coordinator Julia Volynsky spent two weeks in China last fall representing School One at high school fairs. She traveled to Beijing, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou.  Read more about her adventures!

Sophomore wins prize in MIT essay contest

Nelson Healy (’15) recently wrote a prize-winning essay on nuclear technology in a contest sponsored by MIT. He was one of 300 students worldwide who entered the contest.

Make way for 'Hamweenie'!

S1 grad Patty Bowman’s first book, The Amazing Hamweenie, about a house cat with dreams of fame and fortune, was released in bookstores on Oct. 11. Congratulations, Patty!

Board of Directors Praises Tom Cern's Leadership, Welcomes New President

Tom Cern, who effectively led School One's Board of Directors since 2009, passed on the presidency to fellow member Daria Kreher in January.

Our very own Max Brumberg-Kraus (’12) has won a Gold Medal Award in this year's Scholastic Art & Writing competition. Congratulations, Max!
